Welcome to the 62EX AFSC discussion blog. The purpose of this blog is to foster discussion between future AF officers interested in this career feild and current officers in 62EX. The views expressed in this blog are solely the opinions of the individual authors and not of the USAF nor the DoD. There are six different kinds of Developmental Engineers (Aero, Astro, EE, Mech Eng, Project, and Computer Systems), this blog has officers representing each of those with posts pertinent to each.

One of the things to be prepared for in the AF is that they see astro & aero jobs to be interchangeable, so you may be an astro engineer, but never do astro engineering. No worries, though, the aero jobs are just as interesting. There are ways to vector yourself into space if you want to, just work with your commander, the space office you want to work in, & AFPC diligently.
I'd add in some Mech jobs to your commentary.
I "flew" satellites for my first Astro Engineering duty at Schriever AFB. I was basically the same as a Satellite Operator.
I think it's an exciting time to be a 62 in the space career field! My experience on the acquisition side varied quite a bit. In one assignment I had the opportunity to work as a Delta II Propulsion Engineer (launching GPS and space experiment satellites), Executive Officer (support the commander for the heritage launch vehicle programs), Chief of Milstar Flight Ops (deploy two Milstar satellites and manage a multi-million dollar on-orbit support contract). As a junior officer, there are definitely great leadership opportunities out there!
